A Spartanburg couple are facing animal cruelty charges after officers found abandoned dogs walking on the roof of their house on Clifdale Road .

Giuseppe Mangione, 44, was charged with five counts of ill treatment of animals. His common-law wife, Tonya Lavette Marshall, 39, faces one count of ill treatment. The couple was arrested Wednesday when they arrived at the Spartanburg Human Society shelter to retrieve the dogs, who were beginning to show signs of neglect, said Spartanburg County environmental control officer Sgt. Jamie Nelson.
