County: Virginia Beach CityDisposition: Alleged
Alleged: Ines Baer
More than a dozen Persian cats -- some of them seriously ill -- are in city custody after animal control officers found them living in unsanitary conditions on April 5. Virginia Beach Animal Control Officer David Greene said Ines Baer had 13 cats and one newborn kitten at her home in the 3300 block of Sandpiper Road.
She could not produce proof they'd been vaccinated for rabies or had city licenses.
After questioning Baer, animal control officers got a warrant to search her home. Four of the cats had serious upper respiratory infections, Greene said, and animal cruelty charges are pending.
Greene said the department got a tip about the case from someone who saw Baer at a local veterinary clinic, where a fifteenth cat is being treated. Baer is scheduled to appear in court April 15.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
