The owner of Abracadabra Pet Motel has been charged with 13 counts of animal neglect/cruelty.

Freddy L. Doss, 54, of Fort Walton Beach, was arrested for the misdemeanor crimes on Friday afternoon, according to his arrest report.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted into the conditions at the business on Cloverdale Boulevard in Fort Walton Beach.

Dogs were found living in extremely filthy conditions on Sept. 8, Animal Control Director Dee Thompson-Poirrier wrote in her report. There was no drinkable water, and and the dogs were kept in runs with excessive amounts of wet and dried feces and mold."

Rats were also found running throughout the area, and the temperature was more than 90 degrees inside and outside of the building, according to Poirriers report.

The animals, which were being boarded there, were seized due to concern for their health and safety.

Doss' court date has been set for Oct. 2.
