The Montgomery County Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for abandoning five retriever-mix puppies that were found April 3 on the roadside at Bradley Boulevard, between Fernwood and Burdette roads in Bethesda's Bradley Hills community.

A passerby saw a cardboard box by the side of the road April 2 and, when it was still there the next day, stopped to move it and found the flea-infested puppies, which were suffering from dehydration. The Animal Services Division of the Montgomery County Police is investigating the incident as a case of animal abandonment and animal cruelty and also is searching for the puppies' mother, since the puppies are too young to be separated from her.

Anyone with information is asked to call animal services at 240-773-5925, Ext. 4, or the Montgomery County Humane Society at 240-773-5960.
