Alleged: Jay Sifuentes
Police arrested a man after he allegedly beat his mother and then cracked the skull of her small dog with a weed trimmer. "I could hear screaming, and hollering, and crying," one neighbor told News 4 WOAI.
Police were called to 1000 block of Pine Eagle in far north Bexar County. Neighbors said 23-year-old Jay Sifuentes was beating his mother and torturing her dog.
"Oh, I was very angry. It makes me angry every time I think about it," said Sifuentes' aunt Nita Tunnell.
Tunnell told News 4 WOAI Sifuentes killed the family dog when an argument with his mom got too heated. Sifuentes reportedly first slapped his mother in the face. Investigators said Sifuentes then turned on her her little Shi-Tzu. According to neighbors, Sifuentes came out of the house and slammed the dog down onto the front stairs.
"It wounded the dog, so he said 'Well I might as well just kill it.' So he got something," a neighbor said.
Witnesses said Sifuentes grabbed a weed trimmer and began beating the dog, eventually cracking its skull. A neighbor took the dog and buried it in the front yard. Tunnel told News 4 WOAI she's glad her nephew in jail. "If he can do that to a dog, what's he going to do to my sister somewhere down the line?," said Tunnel.
Sifuentes has been charged with animal cruelty and assault and remains in the Bexar County Jail. His bond has been set at $7100.
Animal cruelty laws are about to get tougher. It will soon be a felony for torturing or killing an animal cruelly. The law also tightens laws on animal fighting. The new laws go into effect September 1st. References« TX State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Bexar County, TX
