Dog tethered in heat, dies
Murrieta, CA (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Aug 29, 2007
County: Riverside

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Officers received a second report of a dog left chained in the heat. That dog, which appeared to be a Labrador retriever, died, according to Willa Bagwell, director of Animal Friends of the Valleys.

Bagwell said she is seeking charges against the owners for animal cruelty, neglect and illegal chaining.

Bagwell said officers are finding lately that even when pet owners provide a dish of water, it is inadequate. The average stainless steel dish gets too hot, is too small and is too easily overturned, she said. In this kind of heat, Bagwell said, owners should leave a large tub of water for dogs that must be left outside.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
