Deputies have arrested two Angelina County residents after finding an abandoned pit bull Wednesday at a trailer house they once occupied, according to an arrest affidavit.
A landlord said Michael Sheffield, 34, and Ashley Sheffield Jeffcoat, 22, moved out Monday. The two allegedly took one pit bull with them and left the other behind, a neighbor told deputies.
On Wednesday, deputies with Angelina County Animal Control found the pit bull left unchained in the yard without food or water. A neighbor said she had been feeding and providing water for the dog since Tuesday.
The pit bull, apparently friendly, had severe hair loss, the report stated. Deputies seized the animal and took it to a veterinarian for treatment. When contacted by deputies, Sheffield said he was now living in Willis, Texas, and had left the dog unchained so it could find food and water until they returned, the report stated. The two were arrested late Thursday.
