Dog shot to death, protection order violated
Lewiston, ME (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Aug 29, 2007
County: Androscoggin

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Paul Parker, Jr.

Paul Parker, Jr., was in court on Aug 30 in Lewiston. He is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, violation of a protection order and theft of a firearm.

Parker was arrested this week after police say he broke into his ex-wife's home and shot her 15-year-old dog. Joyce Parker says her former husband has a history of domestic violence and alcohol abuse. She says he once pushed her into a woodstove and her leg was so badly cut that she had to have emergency surgery.

She also says she is sure Parker was coming after her when he shot the dog. Police found him hiding in the woods behind her trailer, armed with a gun. According to the district attorney's office, a note threatening Joyce Parker was found in Paul Parker's belongings.

"His words were all the time that he was going to finish me and finish my son. If I would have been here I probably would have been laying next to my dog. He was out to come after me," said Joyce Parker.

Paul Parker Jr. is being held on $25,000 bail. If he is able to make bail, he will not be allowed back into the town of Poland.
