County: Richmond City

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Nathaniel Tolliver

A Richmond man will spend two months in jail after pleading guilty to animal cruelty on Aug 28.

Nathaniel Tolliver plead guilty to two counts of animal cruelty and was sentenced to two months in jail after abandoning several of his dogs.

Police say Tolliver abandoned three dogs, leaving them tied up behind his Barton Avenue home, which he put up for sale. Police found the dogs, one a cocker-spaniel, the others pit bull mixes, chained to a dog house. One of the animals was already dead.

Tolliver had claimed he was returning to the property on a regular basis to care for the dogs.

The two surviving dogs have been rehabilitated and put up for adoption.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
