Dog shot with pellet gun, resulting in death
Grapevine, TX (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Aug 26, 2007
County: Tarrant

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A family pet was shot to death in a Grapevine neighborhood. The body of the Jack Russell Terrier named "Squirt" was found over the weekend.

Owner Melinda Davis says the two-year-old dog had found a narrow way out of the backyard. The Davis' believe Squirt was shot with a high-powered pellet gun just outside their fence, in a neighbor's yard.

"They said that it [the bullet] perforated the small intestine approximately in five places, which means the pellet actually was enough to it that it ricocheted inside of her body," said Squirts owner Trey Davis.

The dogs shooting has stunned the neighborhood and broken the hearts of a family.

Neighbor Nick Tiootta says the crime is simply horrific. "Shooting someone's dog, in their backyard, is a pretty barbaric act," he said.

"That little dog has given this family more joy than just about anything," Trey said.

Local neighbors are so upset that they have donated $250 in reward money to help find Squirt's killer. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grapevine Police Department.
