City Police are investigating the death of a three-month-old puppy after officers found it locked inside a hot car for over two hours on August 14, 2007. Police say a couple left the animal in the Panama City Mall parking lot while they went shopping.

When officers arrived, they say the puppy was severely dehydrated with a temperature of over 107 degrees. Investigators rushed it to Forest Park Animal Hospital after attempting to save its life. The puppy died a few hours later. Det. Brenda Pelfrey said, "When they're locked inside a car and they're panting, that goes inside the car and it gets even hotter. The dogs don't stand a chance."

Officers initially charged 17-year-old Travis Davis, Jr. with one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, but since the puppy died, he's now facing a felony charge.

His girlfriend, 18-year-old Dianna Brummell, is also facing felony charges.
