In 2006, investigators received a call of dogfight in progress and arrived at a house on Clearland Circle in Bay Point to find nine dogs.

They also found penicillin, a bloody "break stick" for prying a dog's jaws from another animal, plywood boards with blood spots on them and a rolled carpet soaked in blood, according to an official report on the bust.

Ten to 15 people streamed out of the house. One of the dogs had scars on his head, face and legs. Another suffered fresh cuts and bite wounds.

The district attorney's office declined to prosecute the case after evidence was lost, Barrett said.
