Kitten beaten to death with golf club
Halifax, NS (CA)

Incident Date: Sunday, Aug 5, 2007

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: 16 year old male

Tuesday, the mother of a 16-year-old accused of beating the kitten with a golf club said the allegations against her son are a case of mistaken identity. The woman spoke to reporters moments before the teen appeared yesterday (TUE) in Halifax youth court.

She acknowledged she didn't know many details of the situation, but said: "No, I don't feel my son is the type to kill a cat."

Tuesday, the teen made his first court appearance on charges of killing the kitten and property damage related to the animal. Dressed in a red t-shirt, with his black ball cap in his hands, the youth looked over to his mother, who was seated in the gallery.

The teen is being held in custody and is due for a bail hearing today (WED). He is also due to go on trial Wednesday on a number of unrelated charges, including break and enter, theft and mischief.

Police came to her door Sunday morning, looking for her son, the woman said. The teen was arrested later in the afternoon. "I was shocked. I was shocked they were looking for him for killing a cat."
