A 17-year-old Cahokia High School student was charged with animal cruelty in connection with a videotape showing a cat being tormented with firecrackers. Larry Townsend of 2501 Renois Lane near Cahokia, was charged with lighting firecrackers under the cat on Dec. 22. The charge of cruel treatment of a cat is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by 60 days in jail and a fine.

The tape was peddled in Cahokia High School for $6 a copy.
