Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Authorities said Friday night two people were charged in connection with a dogfighting raid in Ford Heights.

According to reports, 48-year-old Aaron Harding was charged with six counts of felony dogfighting and one count of providing a structure for dogfighting. Terell Hester, 30, was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance. A bond hearing was scheduled for Saturday morning in Markham.

Authorities said three young pit bulls were chained to posts out behind a Ford Heights house, living in their own excrement.

When the Cook County sheriff's police moved in, they found equipment used to train these dogs to fight and also found quantities of Ecstasy and crack cocaine.

Three people were taken into custody, and charges are pending.

According to Humane Society officials, another incident happened at the home in January.

"They are in good condition," said Phyllis Piunti. "They might have just be in the first stage of training. We found six dogs here -- they were bleeding."

That investigation was conducted with the cooperation of local police, who were also on hand Friday.

Neighbors reported that the weekly dogfights would draw 20 or 30 cars to the residential area near Embassy Lane.

The dogs are in the custody of the South Suburban Humane Society. The sheriff's department said the investigation is continuing.
