Animal officials fear that thieves who recently stole puppies from a Norwich pound may have intentions of using the dogs for fighting.

Three 4-week old pit bull puppies were stolen from the pen they shared with their mother at the Norwich Dog Pound on Sunday, according to animal control officers.

While police said they believe they know who the thieves are from the pound's surveillance video, the more time the dogs spend separated from their mother, the smaller their chances of survival become.

Animal control officer Michelle Kellough said that the puppies were less than a month old and that being separated from their mother at such a young age could be very dangerous.

The puppies, along with their mother, were reportedly taken into custody from a Norwich home last month.

Kellough said that the puppies already had homes lined up for them and that their mother, Nina, will be up for adoption in a few weeks.
