Bait dog abandoned with throat slit
Vineland, NJ (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Aug 4, 2007
County: Cumberland

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Another dead pit bull was found abandoned in Vineland. This one had it's throat slit.

Both of the dogs had bite marks all over their bodies, and a purple substance covering their wounds, according to a police report.

A passerby found the dog at Walnut Road and George Lane at 9:23 a.m. Saturday and alerted police.

The black-and-white male pit bull was lying in the middle of Walnut Road.

His throat was cut and he had bite marks on his body, face and legs, police said. A shaved "T" appeared on his left front leg, according to the report.

Animal control officer Diane Starn told police she suspects the pit bulls were used for dog fighting and that the purple substance on their wounds was some sort of medication. Starn told police she suspects someone is engaging in dog fighting in a wooded area.

Officials are unsure if the animals walked to the locations where they were found or if someone dumped them on the streets.
