more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

1,500 cattle suffering from dehydration
Wiluna, WA (AU)

Incident Date: Monday, May 1, 2006

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Windidda Aboriginal Corporation

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

An Aboriginal corporation in Western Australia has been fined $10,000 for failing to provide sufficient water for 1,500 head of cattle on a station in the state's interior.

The fine was handed down May 2, 2006, after the Windidda Aboriginal Corporation pleaded guilty to the charge brought by the RSPCA.

Tim Darcy from the Pastoralists and Graziers Association says it is important that livestock producers from across Australia stick to animal welfare standards. "The industry would deem that the mere fact that they have been fined is a very good response because there's no way in the world that industry supports that type of cruelty to animals and I'd say most people, most genuine people, in the production industry of cattle would be, would've been horrified by what they saw there," he said.

Case Updates

The Windidda Aboriginal Corporation has spoken about a fine it received for animal neglect on a property near Wiluna.
The corporation was fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to not providing adequate water for cattle on the remote station early in 2005.

A spokesman for Windidda says the penalty was the minimum as the court recognised the difficult circumstances for community members. A Government-sponsored manager will work with the community for six months, training station staff. The corporation says it welcomes the Government support.
