For the second time in as many months, police have charged a Middletown woman in an animal abuse case. Alicia Roth, 33, reportedly left her 8-year-old Rottweiler locked in a cage on a hot porch while she was away in Tennessee.
Police said the dog, which had been left alone for days, was infested with fleas and had a staph infection.
"Despite all the media attention and press (that) animal cruelty is getting in Butler County, some people just don't get it," said Leland Gordon, Executive Director of the Animal Friends Humane Society.
Case UpdatesA Middletown couple accused twice of animal abuse avoided trial Thursday on charges related to their puppy's death.
Authorities dropped charges against Taylor Roth, charged in June with throwing his puppy against a wall during an argument, and his wife, Alicia Roth.
The puppy broke its leg in the incident and veterinarians eventually euthanized the animal.
A judge ordered the couple to pay the puppy's medical bills, but all charges were dropped, much to the dismay of animal welfare activists.
"In the police report it says that Mr. Roth did throw the dog against the house," said Leland Gordon, executive director of the Animal Friends Humane Society. "So here we have a dog that comes in that's injured, and it seems like nothing is going to happen because of the legal system."
Alicia Roth was also charged in August with leaving her 8-year-old rottweiler locked in a cage on a hot porch while she was away in Tennessee.
That charge of animal cruelty was also dismissed, and the dog will be returned to the couple.
Roth had said the incident was the result of a misunderstanding between her and a caregiver she had lined up for the dog. | Source: WLWT - Oct 3, 2007 Update posted on Oct 3, 2007 - 4:12PM |
