The Humane Society of the United States is putting up a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the stabbing of 13 cows.
The cows belonging to David and Ruth Lyman were stabbed in early November. One young heifer was wounded so badly that it had to be euthanized. Others required surgery.
Most of the cows suffered multiple stab wounds in their flanks, abdomen and chest, according to Paul Smith, a Waterville veterinarian who treated the animals.
Two were in severe condition, with intestinal membrane protruding from some wounds. One of those also had a collapsed lung.
Smith said the attackers apparently used a lock-back knife or a hunting knife with a blade about five inches long. If you have information on this case, please contact: HSUS
