Dog shot, resulting in death
Salt Lake City, UT (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, May 20, 2007
County: Salt Lake

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: man

A 67-year-old man is charged with animal cruelty for shooting a small dog that entered his yard.

Prosecutors say the dog had to be euthanized because of injuries to its internal organs. While officials were investigating the May 20 incident they also found a robin in the yard that had been shot to death.

Salt Lake County Animal Services filed the initial complaint against the man. The case was then transferred to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office and he was charged in 3rd District Court yesterday with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Both are class A misdemeanors which carry a possible sentence of up to one year in jail.
