Deputies arrested a 59-year-old man under the suspicion that he choked his wife's cat and threw the animal against a wall.

Robert Senese, of the 1800 block of Towhee Lane, told his wife late Monday night that he always hated T.J. the cat, a report stated.

The woman told deputies that Senese went into a rage, grabbed the cat by the neck and started choking it. T.J. bit Senese and he threw the Persian cat against the wall, a report said.

Senese then reportedly pulled out a large pocket knife and chased after the cat, saying he was going to kill it.

His wife tried to stop him, but Senese threw her against a bedroom dresser, the report said.

She called authorities and Senese was arrested. He was charged with domestic battery and cruelty to animals. He was released from the Sarasota County Jail on Thursday with a set bail of $2,000.
