A Morgan County man has been charged with violating provisions regarding the disposal of dead animals and a misdemeanor count of animal abuse after investigators seized 28 live animals and 25 dead dogs from an unlicensed kennel on June 4.
Mitchell Nelson Loganbill, 27, was charged Aug 1 in the Morgan County Associate Circuit Court.
Officials at the Morgan County Sheriff's Department said he turned himself in on Aug 2 and immediately posted a $1,500 cash bond as ordered by Associate Circuit Judge Kevin Schehr.
Deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department and representatives from the Humane Society of St. Louis seized the animals from Loganbill's kennel at his home on Truman Road in the northeastern portion of Morgan County.
Officials said they were notified of the conditions of the kennel by an anonymous caller who had stopped at the kennel in hopes of purchasing an animal.
The department's investigation found the environment to be unclean and unsafe for the animals, some of which were living in the same cage, officials said.
All of the animals were immediately transported to a shelter in St. Louis by the Humane Society, where they were treated and tested.
Several of the animals were cleared and offered for adoption through the society.
The dead animals were tested to determine the cause of death.
Loganbill was arrested at the time of the investigation and was later released pending the filing of charges.
Morgan County Prosecutor Marvin Opie removed himself from the case and Moniteau County Prosecutor John T. Kay was appointed special prosecutor on July 9.
