Dogs Deserve Better is trying to gather more information on the dead dog that was dumped, still attached to its doghouse, on Gallagher Road in Coolbaugh Township on Friday, upsetting the entire neighborhood along the country road.
The young, chocolate Lab-type dog was "very skinny," according to Kirsten Van Fleet, who lives on Gallagher Road.
"We're used to seeing trash being dumped here," she said on Friday. "But this is absolutely the sickest thing. I can take a sofa or garbage every once in a while, but this goes too far." If you have information on this case, please contact: Pocono Mountain Regional Police (570) 895-2400
Case UpdatesPolice are asking the public for help finding who left a dead, underweight dog beside a Coolbaugh Township road.
That incident joined a growing list of dog cruelty events in the Poconos that stretch back into last year.
The young, chocolate Lab-type dog was found with an igloo-shaped doghouse on Gallagher Road, connecting routes 423 and 191 at the north end of Monroe County.
The road has previously been used as an illegal dumping ground for construction and household garbage.
Lt. Harry Lewis of Pocono Mountain Regional Police said the investigation is ongoing and his department has been in contact with the Monroe County dog warden and the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The dog was an unneutered male. It was a large-breed Labrador retriever-Rottweiler type.
It was wearing a black nylon collar with paw prints on the buckle and a white flea collar with a leash still attached.
Dogs Deserve Better, a local animal welfare group, is collecting money for a reward in the case. Anyone wishing to donate to the reward fund can call (973) 714-6276 or e-mail unchainthepoconos@yahoo.com.
