On April 17, 2003, investigators found evidence at a home on Danielsville Road that a man was keeping dogs for fighting.

According to reports, police found six dogs with apparent battle scars in Tommy Lee Harris' back yard. The dogs were tethered with weights attached - a typical way of strengthening fighting dogs.

Other evidence of dog fighting included syringes, vials of vitamin B12 and a bottle of penicillin, all commonly used to treat dogs injured in a fight.

Although officials said the man was known on the streets as a "big dog-fighter", Harris was only charged with animal neglect and other lesser offenses.

According to court records, Harris pleaded guilty to 12 animal violations and was sentenced to five months in jail on April 4, 2004.

Two years earlier, Harris served 18 months of probation for violating 14 animal control ordinances.
