A Wilson man is being held in the Carter County Jail in Ardmore after scuffling with neighbors and shooting his own dog.

Wilson Police Chief Felix Hernandez says J.D. Shivers was jailed Sunday night after his neighbors called police to say he was shooting into their yard and at his dog.

Witnesses told police that Shivers would shoot at his dog, then call it back to him, then shoot at it again. On the fifth attempt, Shivers shot and killed his dog. The dog was disposed of by the time officers arrived at the home that night.

Shivers is also being held on complaints of assault and battery, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm and felony pointing of a firearm.
