An Oklahoma City woman was charged on July 30, 2007 with cruelty to animals, after animal welfare officers, responding to a citizens tip, went to a rural east Norman property and seized several horses and dogs, after finding them apparently abandoned.

Teresa Ann Smith, 56, Oklahoma City, was charged with one count of cruelty to animals.

When the officers arrived July 19 at the property on East Tecumseh Road, they found two horses, three Chow Chow dogs and three puppies, all showing signs of extreme malnutrition. None of the animals had food or water, and there appeared to be no means on the property to provide water for them, officers said. The animals were taken to the Norman Animal Shelter, where they have received nourishment and veterinary care, officers said.
