Failure to provide vet care for injured puppy Duncan, BC (CA)Incident Date: Monday, Apr 30, 2007
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Benjamin Joseph » Amanda Thomas
Duncan residents Benjamin Joseph and Amanda Thomas have been charged with animal cruelty for refusing to seek necessary veterinary care for their eight-month-old puppy after she was hit by a car. The Pitbull-cross puppy was taken to a vet immediately following the accident where it was determined that she needed surgery to repair or remove a fractured femural head in order to relieve her distress.
When the couple did not bring the dog back for the necessary surgery the SPCA contacted them and were told that the dog had been shot. Believing the dog was still in their custody, BC SPCA animal cruelty officers obtained and executed a warrant and removed the dog from the couple's home. The dog received the surgery she required while in SPCA care and was adopted into a loving home.
Benjamin Joseph and Amanda Thomas make their first court appearance in Duncan on May 29th. If convicted, they faces a maximum fine of up to $2,000, up to six months in jail and a prohibition of owning animals for a period of time determined by a judge. References
