Two dogs neglected, chain frozen to ground Duncan, BC (CA)Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 31, 2007
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Adrian Castles
Duncan resident Adrian Castles has been charged under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Criminal Code of Canada after BC SPCA animal cruelty officers investigated a complaint and discovered two dogs in Castle's care in distress. "We attended the property after we received a complaint that one of the dogs couldn't move because his chain was frozen to the ground," said Animal Protection Officer Erika Paul.
"We discovered that the dog, a German shepherd mix, had been injured six months earlier and had a broken hind leg which required amputation because of the length of the time he had suffered with the injury." The second dog, a Pitbull mix, was suffering from a chronic, untreated ear problem. When faced with paying for veterinary costs, Castles chose to surrender the two dogs, along with a third dog not involved in the investigation, to the SPCA. The two sick and injured dogs received the care that they needed while in SPCA custody and two of the dogs have been adopted into loving homes, while a third is still available for adoption.
Castles makes his first court appearance in Duncan on June 5th. If convicted, he faces a maximum fine of up to $2,000, up to six months in jail and a prohibition of owning animals for a period of time determined by a judge. References
