Two neglected llamas seized Dawson Creek, AB (CA)Incident Date: Monday, Apr 30, 2007
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Ed Thompson
Dawson Creek resident Ed Thompson has been charged with animal cruelty after BC SPCA Animal Cruelty Officers removed two emaciated llamas from his property. A third llama was found dead on the property.
"The llamas had no bedding and they were in such poor body condition that they had no fat to shield them from the extremely cold temperatures and icy winds," said Debbie Goodine, BC SPCA Animal Protection Officer. "The animals had no water and were only being fed pellets that are meant solely as a supplement to their main feed."
After being taken into SPCA custody the llamas were placed in a foster home where they are receiving proper food, water and shelter. "The foster family has reported to us that the llamas have no desire to venture outdoors now. They are happy just eating, drinking and staying indoors in the warm, well-bedded barn."
Thompson makes his first court appearance in Dawson Creek on May 11th. If convicted, he faces a maximum $2,000 fine, up to six months in jail and a prohibition on owning animals for a period of time determined by a judge. References
