Police in Murfreesboro have charged a man with animal cruelty after he was seen dragging his yellow Labrador retriever behind his pickup early Thursday.
Dale Strickland, of Murfreesboro, maintains his innocence saying it was someone else who stole his truck driving it.
A woman driving home from work saw the dog being dragged as the pickup passed her.
After the driver of the truck allegedly saw the woman turn around, he stopped and unhooked the dog.
They woman found the dog injured in the road and took it to a 24-hour pet clinic.
The Lab was so badly injured it had to be euthanized.

Police said Dale Strickland, 51, dragged his yellow lab Spice behind his pick-up truck for almost a mile down Elam Road in Rutherford County on July 26.
Spice had to be euthanized due to the injuries he received.
Strickland maintains his innocence and said it was someone else who stole his truck, driving it
Sherry Dill was driving home from when she saw the dog being dragged behind the pick up truck.
She said Spice was being dragged by a cable attached to his collar and the truck wad going at least 40 miles-per-hour
