Puppy mill - 45 dogs seized Petal, MS (US)Incident Date: Friday, Jul 20, 2007 County: Forrest
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Bobbie Jo Bradley
A Petal woman has been charged with animal cruelty-failure to provide proper veterinary care after roughly 45 animals were confiscated from her Willard Street home.
Bobbie Jo Bradley is set to appear in municipal court July 31. The charge, Police Chief Lee Shelbourn said, can carry a fine of up to $1,000 and a sentence of up to 90 days in jail.
“I received an anonymous tip, procured a search warrant and searched the residence,” said James Knight, Petal’s animal control officer. “It was terrible.”
The animals were taken to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter, Knight said.
Another dog, housed at a local veterinarian’s office, was also confiscated, Knight said – the pregnant dog was in poor condition and had birthed her puppies, all of which died, prematurely.
Knight cautioned potential pet owners of the dangers of buying pets from unlicensed breeders.
“And ask for the bill of health of the animal,” he said. References « More cases in Forrest County, MS
