Habitat for Horses received a call from Louisiana on Thursday, June 7 about an injured mare in desperate need of special care.

The horse, now named Naysa, had reportedly been abused by her owner.

According to reports, Tony Meyers, enraged by Naysa's refusal to enter a trailer, dragged the mare behind the trailer and also backed over her with the trailer.

When found, the mare was wearing a halter wrapped in barbed wire. She also had a hole that ran from her nose through her sinus cavity that appeared to be a bullet wound. Naysas hooves were also extremely worn down.

After spending a week in intensive care, the mare arrived at her new home, and has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

Tony Meyer has been charged with cruelty to animals, and is scheduled to be arraigned on August 8, 2007, at 9:00 a.m.
