A pit bull died and two others were injured during a weekend dog fight, the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office reported.

Sheriffs deputies arrested James Gordon, 54, on charges of initiating the four-dog fight at his home on East McDonald Road.

One of the pit bulls died and another sustained several lacerations to his face and neck as a result of the fight, the sheriffs office reported. A third pit bull, labeled as the aggressor by the sheriffs office, also received a laceration to his face.

Hillsborough County Animal Services now have the three live dogs in custody, agency spokeswoman Marti Ryan said.

Ryan said a total of four dead dogs were found on Gordon's property.

Gordon was charged with one felony count of animal cruelty and a felony count of dog fighting. He is being held at Hillsborough County Jail on $4,000 bond.
