According to court records, Timothy Elkins was charged with 21 felony counts of dog-fighting and one count of possession of criminal tools stemming from a raid on his property February 22, 2002.

On January 26, 2004, Elkins pleaded guilty to one felony count of dog-fighting. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea bargain.

He was sentenced to credit for time served in jail, community service, fines, and two years' probation.

Elkins was prohibited from owning animals as part of his probation, and authorities believe he began moving his dogs to properties owned by various family members.

Timothy Elkins, along with wife Crystal Elkins, uncle Claude Adams, and grandmother Bertha Adams, currently face misdemeanor animal cruelty charges stemming from a raid on four properties in March of 2006.

More than 24 pit bulls were found, and although some of the dogs were reportedly still fighting when deputies arrived, the Elkins currently only face misdemeanor charges on that case.
