Chester L. Thompson was charged with cruelty to animals after Harrison County officials removed nearly 40 malnourished horses from his property on April 17, 2003. He was charged with 38 counts of animal cruelty and one count of criminal trespassing.

Thompson was convicted on 12 counts of the second-degree misdemeanor charges. He was given concurrent 30-day jail sentences for each count, all of which were suspended. Thompson was also ordered to pay fines totaling $750.00, and pay costs for the horses' care.

As part of his two year probation, he was prohibited from owning livestock.
