Puppy's ears hacked off
West Palm Beach, FL (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, May 15, 2007
County: Palm Beach

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A pitbull puppy suffering animal abuse needs surgery to save her life after someone tried to clip her ears and left them mutilated and infected.

The puppy, named Angel, has fallen victim to a case of animal abuse that has become a growing problem in South Florida. Someone dumped Angel with her ears mangled after a botched attempt to crop them. Veterinarian Eric Schnirman has been treating her. "Someone had taken a pair of scissors, blade or knife and probably forcibly held this dog down and tried to cut the ear in a typical manner that would be done to the pitbull," he explained.

Dr. Schnirman says he's seen multiple cases of attempted ear cropping, and it sickens him every time. Angel still weeps from the pain of her wounds.

This type of animal abuse is criminal according to laws against animal cruelty. Angel is suffering from a severe ear infection, and it will take surgery to save her life. She is expected to heal over time, but her caretakers hope to find her a loving home. "She's an absolute angel," said one of Angel's caregivers. "Her name is perfect for her, she's so sweet."

Once Angel is completely healed, she will go up for adoption. If you would like to adopt or help her out, call Paws 2 Help at 561-712-1911.
