A man faces charges of animal cruelty after officers found several dogs suffering from starvation and one dog dead on the scene.

A total of five dogs were found inside a house located on the 4500 block of Fifth Place around 8 p.m. Monday night. Officers arrived to find four dogs, three pit bulls and one rottweiler, chained and confined in small cages without food or water. One dog was already dead and another had to be euthanized because it was so weak.

Anthony Nation , 44, appeared in bond court Tuesday morning and was charged with animal cruelty and neglect. He faces two charges for the dogs who died and four charges for abandonment.

Nation's parents said they were shocked about the allegations and said their son is an animal lover. Authorities say however, that the conditions the dogs were living in show otherwise.
