A menagerie of miserable animals was rescued from an abandoned Western Massachusetts farm yesterday.
One dog, one chicken and 378 quail were seized by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as authorities executed a search warrant at the desolate Hardwick homestead early in the afternoon.
"The farm had been abandoned, and these animals have not been fed or watered," said MSPCA spokesman Brian Adams.
"They were transported to our Nevins Farm facility in Methuen, where they will stay until the courts decide their fate."
Once the animals' owner has been located, a hearing will be scheduled, Adams said. The owner could then be indicted on charges of animal cruelty, Adams said.
After the hearing, the animals could be returned to the owner or put up for adoption. References |
