Kittens abandoned in apartment after tenants leave
Lacey, WA (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jan 15, 2007
County: Thurston

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Failed to Appear

Persons of Interest:
» Jill Renae Tupia
» Bradley T. Timian

Authorities seek a man and woman wanted on suspicion of two counts each of animal cruelty for leaving two kittens to starve to death at a Lacey apartment after they were evicted in January, court papers state.

Bench warrants for the arrests of Jill Renae Tupia, 28, and Bradley T. Timian, 35, were filed April 4 in Thurston County Superior Court after they failed to appear for a court hearing.

An official at the Thurston County Jail said Thursday night that Tupia and Timian have not been taken into custody.

According to court papers:

Three to four weeks after Tupia and Timian were evicted from a residence in the 4700 block of 25th Avenue, the owner found two kittens inside. "The kittens were lethargic, dehydrated and very thin. There was no food in the residence and the toilet bowl was dry, indicating the kittens used the toilet water until it was gone."

The owner gave the kittens food and water. He said the kittens "looked like they've never eaten before." Two days later, when the owner returned to the apartment to take the kittens to Animal Services, they were dead.

Necropsies determined that the kittens likely died from starvation and dehydration.

First-degree animal cruelty is a class C felony and carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
