An abused dog is now getting the medical attention it needs. State licensed animal cruelty investigator Jackie Scheviz rescued the dog, who she calls Angel in late March.
Neighbors claim animal control visited the dog's owner twice but wouldn't take the dog away.
Scheviz said the owners didn't feed or give water to Angel and two other dogs.
Angel has infected open wounds and heart worms, and her entire body is infested with parasites, Scheviz said.
"The only way these two dogs could survive on the property is by killing a cat and eating a cat for three weeks straight, and that I didn't believe until I confirmed it with the person who did own the animals, and that's what makes me sick to my stomach," Scheviz said.
Scheviz claims when Columbus County's animal control director visited with the dog's owner, she told them to make changes, but refused to take the animal away.
Angel gave birth to seven puppies in early April. Only two have survived. References« NC State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Columbus County, NC
