A Hagerstown man charged with animal cruelty and second-degree assault in connection with a February incident that left a dog's leg dangling by the skin requested a jury trial on April 17 morning in Washington County District Court, a court clerk said.

Witnesses said that John Edward Mock, Sr., 47, of 719 W. Washington St., picked up the dog by his back legs and pulled them apart, according to court documents. When officers arrived at the scene, Mock threatened to sic three other Rottweilers at his home on the police, according to court documents.

The case was forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court.
