Visalia police on Saturday arrested four people on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and raising cockfighting roosters.

The arrests came after Valley Oak SPCA animal-control officers were looking into an abandoned dog report Saturday morning in the 400 block of East Sunnyview Avenue and discovered 10 fighting roosters in pens and what appeared to be marijuana plants growing in the backyard of a home in the neighborhood.

Police called in to investigate found what appeared to be hundreds of immature marijuana plants growing in 16-ounce cups along with the fighting roosters and a couple of hens. More marijuana plants were discovered inside the house along with drug paraphernalia.
Fighting spurs, which attach to fighting roosters, and medication for the birds was also found, deputies said.

Police arrested Enoel Deniz, 39; Alberta Sosa-Zamora, 21; Salvador Padilla, 22; and Salvador Lara, 38, all of Visalia, on suspicion of possessing drugs for sale, cultivating marijuana, possessing fighting cocks and other counts.
