The Arizona Humane Society and Silent Witness are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot a 1-year-old American bulldog and left it for dead in the desert.
The dog, nick-named "Tank", was found three days ago was found April 9 in a desert area near Miller Road outside Buckeye with bullet wounds in his shoulder blade and chest.
The tan-and-white dog had been shot twice - once in each shoulder.
AHS officials said the first bullet exited the dog's body, while the second skirted his chest cavity before lodging beneath the sternum.
The hollow-point bullet narrowly missed Tank's heart and lungs.
X-rays reveal a hollow-point bullet lodged below Tank's sternum, outside the chest cavity and underneath his heart.
A good Samaritan spotted Tank in the desert and brought him to an emergency clinic, where the staff called AHS.
Tank was transferred to the AHS Second Chance Animal Hospital where the bullet in his chest was surgically removed.
Tank is recovering at the hospital.
"It is definitely a miracle that he's still alive and doing well so far," AHS Chief Veterinarian Nancy Bradley said. "This act was certainly intentional and whoever purposely shot him and abandoned him must pay the consequences."
Tank is in stable condition now, but if you know who shot him, please call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. If you have information on this case, please contact: Silent Witness 480-WITNESS
