Neighbors at Waterstone Landing Apartments say young kids are throwing bricks, harassing, and even breaking the necks of ducks that inhabit the pond at the complex.

15 year-old Dianesha Pattillo lives at Waterstone Landing.

She says almost everyone loves the mallards, geese, and other ducks who swim in the pond at the center of the complex.

She adds, I know I do. I come out and feed them every time.

We saw cars back up and drive around the ducks.

The birds boldly go wherever they want in the apartment complex.

Pattillo says, They walk around, just, you know, wander around.

However, Dianesha says a group of 10 and 11 year old boys who live in and around Waterstone Landing Apartments don't share her love for the birds.

She says, If they see the ducks just standing around or whatever, they take rocks and like throw em at em.

She says she saw something very ugly happen to some ducklings.

She says, They took babies one day and threw the babies all in the middle of the street and just like the babies was broken.

She adds, They just killed the babies.

A summer holiday turned into another occasion for abuse.

She says, Somebody shot one of them (the ducks) with a firecracker and blew it up on the Fourth of July.

She says, I've heard rumors that someone was throwing bricks at the ducks.

Dianesha's mom Shereeta Rippy says the ducks deserve better, but says no one has been able to stop the boys abuse.

Mother and daughter say it's been going on for on year.

A dead duck was found Monday. Neighbors say it looked like it had a broken neck.

Rippy says, I wish we could get a handle on it because the ducks are innocent.

At least one person who lives at the apartment complex has called police several times about the animal abuse.

So far, neighbors say officers have not done anything to stop the boys.
