6 dogs found sick - one found dead Kirby, TX (US)Incident Date: Saturday, Apr 7, 2007 County: Bexar
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Stephen Anderson
A Kirby man was arrested after police found six pit bulls in bad condition, drugs and drug paraphernalia in his home.
Three of those dogs died since they were rescued on April 7.
Stephen Anderson continues to declare his innocence. He says he was trying to nurse the dogs back to health.
"I think it's just a simple case of harassment," Anderson said.
Anderson moved into his Kirby home last year and since then, he said, a neighbor complains to police every chance he gets.
"His animal ventured off into my yard and got a little chewed up. And ever since then it's been an all out war," Anderson said.
On April 7, police responded to an anonymous call about six pit bulls that were sick and dying.
"One of the puppies was deceased at the scene," said Sgt. Michael Alonzo of the Kirby Police Department.
On April 10 night, Kirby police arrested Anderson on charges of animal cruelty.
"I know one of the dogs was put down for Parvo," Alonzo said.
"I am far from (a) cruelty to animals type of person. My animals eat before I eat," Anderson said.
Police are still investigating the drug paraphernalia found inside the home.
"They found a greenhouse, that we believe that he was going to be using or start to use to manufacture marijuana plants," Alonzo said.
The greenhouse is harmless, Anderson said.
"I grow wheat grass, organic tomatoes, my own vegetables and stuff ... getting into the herb thing, trying to take care of my body a little bit better," Anderson said.
His neighbor won, Anderson said, because he's trying to rent out his home, he's relocated, and he's going to try to get his dogs back.
Anderson has a court date on April 19. Police will also file charges against Anderson for the small amount of marijuana they found in his home. References« TX State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Bexar County, TX
