On Monday, March 5, Tifton Police Department detective Bryan Cavenaugh said he got a call from Regenia Wells, director of animal control, requesting that the TPD assist with an investigation about a cat shot with an arrow and a cat injured in a trap.
Cavenaugh said Wells brought all of her reports and the arrow that was removed from cat C7279 to his office.
She told me the officer had carried the cat to the EMS station so they could take out the arrow, Cavenaugh said. He said Wells told him the cat shot with the arrow was a wild cat and had been shot through the neck.
They had taken the cat to the EMS to assist with removal of the arrow, he said.
Cavenaugh said he looked at the records stating the cat had been euthanized on Feb. 23.
He said he went to the boys home on Potts Road and to Jill Does home, but no one was at home.
Cavenaugh said Wells had come by his office later that afternoon to inquire about the investigation and he asked if he could speak with her son, Bo Wells.
She called Bo and he came up, Cavenaugh said. He said he didnt know who had shot the cat.
Cavenaugh said he went to Quailwood and spoke with Dr. Leslie Johnson and verified the date cat C7279 was euthanized.
After I spoke with Bo Wells, on March 9, I got a call from attorney Bob Richbourg, Cavenaugh said. He made an appointment to meet with me.
Cavenaugh said he met with Richbourg and his client, Dustin Lamar Griffin.
He (Griffin) confessed to shooting the cat, Cavenaugh said. He said he was out shooting in his yard and he saw a stray cat. He said he tried to shoo the cat off a couple of times but he would not leave. He said the cat ran and then stopped running. He said he then shot the cat with the bow and arrow. He said he searched for the cat but could not find him. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
