The offense involved a female Redbone Coonhound mix, unaltered and unlicensed. The wound caused by the embedded cable was estimated to be 1/2 inch deep and approximately 5 inches wide. Julia Dillon claimed she had not realized the cable was again embedded in the dog's neck, and that her 12 year old son was responsible for the dog's care.

The dog was tied at the back of the house, only 15 - 20 feet from the kitchen window. This dog had suffered an embedded cable just five months earlier, which was admitted by the defendant, and evidenced by the scars on the back of her neck. She did not receive veterinary care at that time, but was placed in the garage until healed, then tied back up again.

On 05/25/2006, Dillon pleaded no contest and was ordered to reimburse the Humane Society of Columbiana County (HSCC) $281.75 in veterinarian expenses. She was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service for HSCC or Angels for Animals. Lastly, she was ordered to obtain no further pets during her two year probation, and her existing cat was to be examined by a veterinarian.

Dillon has a previous conviction of a dog running at large charge from 2003.
