The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for mutilating a puppy in Mobile, Alabama. The total pledge including $500 from the Animal Defense Council is now $3,000.
According to the Mobile Animal Shelter and media sources, the 12-week-old puppy, now named "Sugar," was found by a passerby in the Trinity Gardens area across from Chastain Middle School and brought to the animal shelter on April 6. The puppy's two hind paws were missing, and she was taken to a veterinarian who treated the dog's injuries. The veterinarian believes that someone may have tied rubber bands around the puppy's hind legs as long as one month prior to the dog's rescue, resulting in a slow amputation of the paws and lower legs.
