An emaciated pit bull was found April 4 in a ditch next to Henry Clay Boulevard, said Elaine Dougard, of Central New York Cat Rescue, who took in the 6-month-old female dog.
Dougard said it's previous owner had left a 25-pound bag of dog food. "She was eating out of the bag in the ditch," Dougard said. "She started barking. Then she put her tail between her legs and cowered and we picked her right up."
The dog, 10 pounds underweight, was taken to Forever Friends Animal Rescue in North Syracuse. Rescue workers are trying to locate a new home for the dog and donations to pay a veterinarian $200 to $300 to spay and examine her. For information, call Casey Newton at 516-8344.
